Letters to Fellow Drivers

Dear Creepy Guy,

When you stare at me the entire time the light is red, it makes me feel uncomfortable. You know I can see you, right? And it’s creepy. So don’t do it anymore. Thanks.

Dear Crazy Lady,

I am not going to run the red light just so you can run it too. So chill, and stop flapping your arms around like that and swearing at me. It’s not going to make me drive any different.

Dear Nose Picker,

Eeewww! We can see you!

Dear Tailgater,

When you ride my bumper, it makes me go slower- not faster. So knock it off.

The Proposal

I thought I’d let Kevin tell you in his words what happened that day. This was actually written in our “couple journal” the day after we were engaged. My comments are in blue.

“We are proud to announce that we are officially engaged; it happened yesterday. Let me expound on what happened. Luckily, Anne didn’t go to class yesterday (it was Saturday), because it gave us a chance to spend extra time together. I went to the Temple just to finalize everything and make sure the Lord agreed. We met up with each other around 11:30 or so. After stopping by my house so I could change and get the ring, we went to Helen Hunt Falls, up by Seven Falls.

It was cloudy and trying to rain when we started our little hike. It wasn’t very long before Anne started to complain about a hurting knee and legs. I told her that it was good for her and that I was teaching her a lesson. (So understanding of him…lol) We finally got to a spot, just before the second little waterfall, where we sat under some trees. We talked for a little bit about temples and the work required for the ones past and present. I asked her to stand up and turn around and close her eyes; she eventually did.

I proceeded to get on one knee and pull the ring out of my pocket; my heart started racing. I’m sure I looked like a deer in headlights, but I was nervous, give me a break. Anyway, I told her that yes, it was a real ring that I was holding. (The ring we went shopping for together about a month earlier) I told her that I loved her and promised to try my best to provide for her spiritually, temporally and emotionally. I promised her that I would remain faithful in the Gospel, and to the Covenants made in the temple. I told her that I want to return back to Father’s presence with her and some “chitlens”; to have an eternal family, in other words. I said that in order to do that I needed to marry her, and then asked if she would marry me for time and all eternity in the Temple of God. She said yes, and then it started pouring.” (I believe I tackled him on the ground after I said yes…)

We were sealed for time and eternity in the Denver LDS Temple on January 7th, 2006.

Comments and a Question

I am trying out a new comment system, and I need some comments so I can see if it works.

So, here’s a random question for you…

Do you buy special outfits for your kids to wear on Easter? Explain.

Our Very Ordinary Story

Kevin and I met at single’s ward, even though he wasn’t actually going to single’s ward; he was still in his family ward. So I guess he just went to scope out the chicks.

The first time Kevin saw me was at single’s ward FHE, playing the piano. He says he remembered thinking I was cute, and I had kind of crazy hair. (What? It’s curly, not crazy!)

The first time I saw Kevin, he was coming towards me after church, at single’s ward. He stuck out his hand, and said “Hi, I’m Kevin, what’s your name?”. After he introduced himself, he said he’d see me at FHE the following night. He claims that we set a date to meet, but I don’t remember that. Which explains why he was wondering where I was until I showed up after FHE had ended. I don’t remember what we talked about, other than his car. He was very proud of his Firebird. So we took a spin in his “cool car”. He got a call in the middle of our drive, and it was his dad. It struck me as so sweet when he told his dad he’d be home soon, and he’d make him his favorite milkshake. Awww. (It was all an act, I think he planned it)

For our first real date he took me to Olive Garden for dinner. I ordered a salad that I really didn’t like, so I got a cheesecake instead. Yup, I was definitely out to make an impression. When we were done, I remember grinning at him and asking if I had anything in my teeth.
I guess he wasn’t appalled by my behavior, since we ended up together and everything.

Fast forward to July 4th. Day of our first kiss, and the day I first asked him (yes, I asked him) to be my boyfriend. How cheesy. And it gets better- I practically had to BEG him to kiss me. What is up with that? Was I not the cutest girl he’d ever known? (Don’t worry, I don’t have to beg him to kiss me anymore.)
(I realize this makes me sound desperate, but I’m just a girl who goes after what I want)

This about sums up our relationship…

Way back when, Kevin worked for a flooring company, driving their big truck around to deliver and pick up orders. One day he invited me to go to Durango with him, in the truck. It was actually pretty fun- we got to talk a lot. We talked and talked about our future lives together, everything from what he wanted to do for a living to how we wanted to raise our kids.We started out so early in the morning that I did take a nap first.

I know, I’m surprised he still wanted me after this trip- just imagine what I looked like when I woke up!

*Sorry the picture quality is so bad- I couldn’t figure out the scanner so I had to take pictures of the pictures.

Up next…”The Proposal”

6 weeks and counting!

We are in the home stretch! I am just about 34 weeks now, so not too much longer left. I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that I’m having a girl! But I am so excited to meet her.

The Great Debate: Waffles or Pancakes?

So which is better, waffles or pancakes? When it comes down to it, in our home, waffles win hands down. Which is your favorite?

Waffles or Pancakes?
Neither, yuck!

1 3/4 c flour
2 T sugar
1 T baking powder
1/4 t salt
2 eggs
1 3/4 c milk
1/2 c butter, melted
1 t vanilla

Mix dry and wet ingredients separately. Stir together just until moistened. (will be slightly lumpy)
Pour about 1 cup onto griddle.
*You can mix it up by adding blueberries or nuts to the batter on the griddle.

Our Favorite toppings:

Orange-Applesauce Topping
1 c unsweetened applesauce
a few tablespoons orange juice concentrate (to taste)

Microwave applesauce with OJ, then add cinnamon

Berry Scrumptious*
1/4 c butter
1 c    powdered sugar
1 c    fresh or frozen berries

Beat butter and powdered sugar until fluffy, carefully add berries.
*Why yes, I did come up with that name all by myself ; )

Maple-Vanilla Syrup

  • 4 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon imitation maple flavor
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Place the white sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, and water in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to medium, cover pan, and simmer 8 minutes. Stir in maple extract and vanilla. Cool completely, then pour into glass jars, cover, and refrigerate.

*This is very sweet- you can certainly reduce the amount of sugar if desired.

Buttermilk Syrup
I used to have an awesome recipe for this, but unfortunately lost it. So here is a similar one:

  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

In a saucepan, stir together the sugar, buttermilk, butter, corn syrup, and baking soda. Bring to a boil, and cook for 7 minutes. Remove from the heat, and stir in the vanilla.

Thankful Thursday

I’ve been complaining a lot. Not necessarily to other people, but to myself. This pregnancy is tough, but I have so much to be thankful for. Here are just a few of those things.

  • I am thankful to be pregnant. I know a lot of women can’t get pregnant, or it takes them a long time. I’ve been blessed to be pregnant 3 times.
  • I am thankful for my two boys. They make my day.
  • I am thankful for Kevin. He is a great husband, a good provider, a wonderful dad.
  • I am thankful for a nice place to live, and enough money to put food on the table. Especially when others I know are struggling.
  • I am so thankful for the gospel of Jesus Christ. My life would be so empty without the knowledge that I have. What do people live for, without faith?
I’d love to hear what you are thankful for. Post something in the comments, or on your own blog.

Daisy Cupcakes

Do you ever have a vision of something really great in your head, and then when you carry it out, it fails to live up to that vision?

This was one of those things. It’s cute, but not what I had pictured in my head. It was much cooler.

But you know what they say… “If at first you don’t succeed, try try again.” One of these days, I’ll be posting some really awesome looking cupcakes- you just wait!

Keeping Up Appearances?

Do you get dressed every day? (meaning hair, makeup and clothes)

Even if you aren’t going anywhere?

Why or why not?

I’ve been thinking about this- why do we take care of our physical appearance? Is it just for the benefit of others? Or do you do it just for yourself?

I would really appreciate some thoughts on this matter.
