A Simple Woman’s Daybook- March 30th ’09

FOR TODAY March 30th…
Outside my window… the ground is still covered in snow.
I am thinking… about the talk by Julie B. Beck, General Relief Society President of the LDS church: “Mothers Who Know
I am thankful for… my beautiful boys.
I am wearing… pajamas/ workout clothes- just finished day 4 of the 30-Day Shred.
I am creating…
baby booties for a friend who is “expecting”.
I am going… nowhere today.
I am reading…
“The Mirror Cracked From Side to Side”- Agatha Christie, and the Second Book of Nephi.
I am hoping…
that Kevin gets a full-time position at the accounting firm where he has an internship. I am hearing… cars and neighbors (all the time- we live in an apartment)
Around the house…
I can see Hayden’s toys scattered almost everywhere. The dryer is running- the sound of it makes me feel productive 🙂
One of my favorite things…
lazy days like today. I am such a homebody.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
I finally get to resume going to YMCA for my classes- the boys and I had been sick for almost 2 weeks. This Saturday and Sunday the LDS church is having General Conference. I love General Conference, because we get to hear our Prophet speak, as well as other church leaders. I always learn so much and am sad when it is over.
Here is picture thought I am sharing…
Kevin and I went to a friend’s wedding reception this weekend. It was held at the church building that I went to when I was in middle and high school- so being there brought back a ton of memories. This is us outside of the church building where it was held. And I am kicking myself for not getting a picture of us with the bride and groom 😦

And the Winner is….. (drumroll)

Ultimate Blog Party 2009

Call me crazy, but I’ve decided to join in on the fun at the Ultimate Blog Party- hosted by 5 Minutes for Mom’s. And what’s a party without some goodies! Here you go… I had a lot of fun making them 🙂

A little about myself:

I have been married to my wonderful husband for a little over three years now. We were married in the Denver LDS Temple in January 2006. We have two little boys, Hayden and Parker, who are 2 and 6 months. I am a stay-at-home mom, and most of my posts revolve around my two great kids. I love to read, organize, watch movies, blog, and hang out with my family at home (among other things…).

This is a fairly new blog, I’m just getting my feet wet- so I would appreciate any advice!

My picks for the prizes: (in order of importance) #s 58, 21 (or any Target gift card), 45, 89, 118, or 88.

I just found this awesome Comments game here. I hope you’ll play! Here are the directions:

Just leave a comment and answer my question! Then, you ask a question that the next commenter answers. If someone forgets to ask a new question, just answer my question!

My Question:

What is one thing you’ve always wanted to do, but haven’t had time or money to do?

P.S.- Check back soon for some awesome free giveaways!

What a day!

If you were a fly on my wall today, here are some of the things you would have heard:

“Hayden, where is your underwear?!?”

“Hayden, get your finger out the there!” -‘there’ meaning the uncooked salmon pot pie that was sitting on the counter.

“Hayden, get down from there!”- the kitchen counter again.

“Hayden, don’t sit on Parker!”

“Put that back in the fridge!” (Hayden, of course)- this one times 20. I didn’t think I’d need a lock on my fridge until he was a teenager.

“What are you doing?!?” -this is after I see Hayden scooping water out of the Humidifier with his hand and drinking it.

“Where do you think you are going?”- after I see Hayden walking out the front door in just a t-shirt, and my 4-inch heels.

So today seemed to be a little crazier than normal, but not much. I do realize that this makes me sound like a frazzled mess, but that’s what happens sometimes with a little boy (girls aren’t as crazy, right? lol). And I wouldn’t trade him for the world. I can only imagine how much more fun I’ll have when Parker is walking and talking too.

Doesn’t this look yummy? It’s what we had for dinner last night.

I love to cook. I think I get it from my parents, who are both awesome chefs. I also love to try new recipes, so much so that I sometimes forget to make the old favorites. This is a recipe from Olive Garden’s website: “Chicken Crostina”. I just found out that they have quite a few recipes, and even some videos on their website. I am so excited to try them all.
I did make a few changes to the recipe; we don’t cook with wine, so I used chicken broth instead. I pounded the chicken a little, to make it the same thickness all over. Also, I didn’t have fresh tomatoes so I used a can of italian seasoned tomatoes. It turned out awesome!

Do you like to cook? What is your favorite thing to make?

Adventures in Potty Training

Hayden is potty-training now. And I have to say, it is one of the most frustrating and yet rewarding things I’ve had to deal with. Never could I have imagined myself so happy when he uses the potty!
I’ve been rewarding him with lots of praise, and stickers. I told him when he filled his potty chart with stickers, he’d get a t-ball set- which he did yesterday.
We had a small “Potty Party” to celebrate his successes so far. He loves his new t-ball set; here are some pictures.

Funny Story- Whenever I use the restroom, and he is there, he will clap and say “woo hoo, good job mommy- you get a sticker!”.

Hayden told me he needed shoes on- and came out of the closet wearing my heels 🙂

And of course, a sweet picture of Parker.
(I like how the drool spots show up so well)

Your Attention Please…

I would like to bring to your attention two great websites geared towards latter-day-saint members. They are both free to use.

The first is LDS Journal, a free online journal. There are some great features; you can add pictures to journal entries, and add footnotes. You can also receive email reminders to help you remember to write a journal entry. There is also a “journal jar” question at the top of your page if you cannot think of anything to write about.

The second website is Read the Scriptures. This website has the scriptures, lesson manuals, ensigns and more. What I like most about it is how you can set a reading schedule. Say, for instance, you want to finish reading the Book of Mormon in a certain amount of time. It will tell you exactly what you need to read in order to meet your goal, and even send your daily reading to your email.

I don’t know about you, but I seem to spend a lot of time online – so I love being able to use these online tools to help me reach my goals. Tell me what you think!
